Day 1: QUITO – ILUMÁN – OTAVALO: FLAVORS & WAVES OF THE ANDES

Discover the spiritual and cultural heart of the Ecuadorian Andes on this immersive full-day experience. Begin in Ilumán, a community renowned for its traditional healers, where you’ll witness a demonstration of an ancestral Andean limpia (energy cleansing ritual). Learn about the deep spiritual connection to Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Indigenous worldview that honors nature and balance. Continue to the iconic Plaza de los Ponchos, one of Latin America’s most important indigenous markets. Explore vibrant stalls filled with handwoven textiles, ponchos, jewelry, and authentic crafts while experiencing the living Kichwa culture. Next, visit a traditional Andean instrument workshop and discover how charangos, quenas, and zampoñas are handcrafted. Enjoy a short live performance and feel the emotion and history behind Andean music.
